Warm Weather

Well we finally have gotten some warm weather and the ice and snow is starting to disappear! The ice really did some damage to quite a few of the trees around the cabin. I ending cutting down a cedar tree that I thought was interfering with our Internet satellite. That broke my heart and I'm still upset about it. I spent some time yesterday afternoon cleaning up broken branches out of the back yard. Looks like I'm going to be having some bonfires when the weather breaks for good. All the wildlife is back out looking for food. The turkeys are by constantly and the deer are coming back around. The birds are always here and have just about eaten me out of my supply of bird feed.

Winter Storm

Wow, what a week its been. We had a huge winter storm come thru the area late Tuesday night thru Wednesday afternoon. We first got about 4" of snow then about a 1/2" of ice on top of that followed by another 4" of snow. We lost power at about 4:30 AM Wednesday and never got it back until 9:30 PM Thursday. Installing the gas stove was the best thing we could have done. Not sure what we would have done without it for heat. We were able to stay warm and cook on the gas grill on the porch. It was a little rough, but we made the best of it. We just prayed that everyone else in the area was able to stay warm and safe too.

Bird Watching

The birds around the cabin have been very active this winter. It's almost a full time job keeping all the feeders I have filled for them. I'm not much of an expert on birds, but I love watching them along with all the other wildlife around the cabin. We had a huge flock of wild turkeys in the back yard yesterday. I lost count when I got above twenty. I've attached a picture of the bird activity at a feeder I have on our back porch.

Winter Weather

The blustery cold of winter arrived here on Thursday and just warmed up last night. We had lows in the single digits with highs in the teens. Friday morning it was 0! My neighbors Tom and Brenda came in yesterday and their water line was frozen! One of the other neighbors and myself used a heat gun to finally thaw it out. It's 31 here now so that feels like a heat wave, however now the snow is falling. It's winter!!

Busy Week

We've had a pretty busy week with work. Mel started working full time this week and I've been trying to get caught up after being off for the holidays. We did meet our part time neighbors Tom and Brenda last night and we went out for dinner. We had a great time, we really like and enjoy spending time with Tom and Brenda. They are retired and live full time in Cincinnati, but have a cabin next to us and visit frequently. Tonight we have been invited to some friends from work, Troy & Julie's, for dinner. We are looking forward to it, they are cooking an eight course Cajun meal. Yum Yum!! Tomorrow I just plan to relax and watch football!

Holiday Cleanup

Its always sad when the time comes to put away the Christmas decorations for another year. It seems like it was just yesterday we put them up. Mel and I spent the day taking down the decorations and cleaning the cabin. I told her the cabin looked a little naked now. On the bright side it was a very warm day here in southern Ohio, around 55 degrees! I went for a little walk in the woods this afternoon even though it was a little wet outside. Any day in the woods is a great day! In a few more months the first signs of spring will be upon us. I can't wait!

Happy New Year

Mel and I celebrated New Years Eve by having a quiet dinner at a little restaurant along the Ohio river not far from the cabin. We then came back to the cabin and watched a movie we had rented. We had a quiet peaceful evening at the cabin, isn't that why we live here, LOL! We hope everyone else had a wonderful and safe New Years Eve. Best wishes to all in the New Year!
