Front Door
Mel and I bought a new front door for the cabin yesterday. It's a cherry door with a teardrop cut glass window. It's really going to make the front of the cabin look great! We are still looking for an entrance set for it. Haven't found anything yet we like, we want something that goes well with a cabin. Once my neighbor and I hang the door I'll post some pictures.

Deer Stand

Shawn, Jen and Dakota came and visited us last weekend. Shawn helped me with several projects around the cabin, including building a deer hunting stand out in the woods. It turned out really nice. All I have to do now is build some walls and put a roof on it. Even with all the work we got accomplished, the kids still had lots of time to ride the 4 wheelers and they even built a few new trails in the woods. I've attached a picture of the deer stand and also some pictures of the view from up on the stand.

New Neighbors

Wow, it's been a while since I posted last. Been so busy lately! Spring has come and the work around the cabin is limitless! I've been trying to get some more grass planted, but the rain hasn't cooperated. I did get a bridge built over a culvert on one of my 4-wheeler trails in the woods. We also had some new neighbors move in this spring. A red fox built a den across from the cabin and has a family of pups living here. Here is a pic of one of the pups.

Valentines Day
Today is a special day for Mel and I, not only is it Valentines Day but it is also our anniversary! We have been married 5 years today and they have been the best 5 years of my life! Actually it's been a milestone week for us. On the 9th we celebrated one year in our log cabin. Hard to believe we have been here for a year! We have been truly blessed and thank the Lord for everything he has blessed us with.

Warm Weather

Well we finally have gotten some warm weather and the ice and snow is starting to disappear! The ice really did some damage to quite a few of the trees around the cabin. I ending cutting down a cedar tree that I thought was interfering with our Internet satellite. That broke my heart and I'm still upset about it. I spent some time yesterday afternoon cleaning up broken branches out of the back yard. Looks like I'm going to be having some bonfires when the weather breaks for good. All the wildlife is back out looking for food. The turkeys are by constantly and the deer are coming back around. The birds are always here and have just about eaten me out of my supply of bird feed.

Winter Storm

Wow, what a week its been. We had a huge winter storm come thru the area late Tuesday night thru Wednesday afternoon. We first got about 4" of snow then about a 1/2" of ice on top of that followed by another 4" of snow. We lost power at about 4:30 AM Wednesday and never got it back until 9:30 PM Thursday. Installing the gas stove was the best thing we could have done. Not sure what we would have done without it for heat. We were able to stay warm and cook on the gas grill on the porch. It was a little rough, but we made the best of it. We just prayed that everyone else in the area was able to stay warm and safe too.

Bird Watching

The birds around the cabin have been very active this winter. It's almost a full time job keeping all the feeders I have filled for them. I'm not much of an expert on birds, but I love watching them along with all the other wildlife around the cabin. We had a huge flock of wild turkeys in the back yard yesterday. I lost count when I got above twenty. I've attached a picture of the bird activity at a feeder I have on our back porch.
